I'm a very amateur photographer at this point and I recently purchased a Canon Rebel eos 2000, because I really wanted to start using 35mm film again. I thought it would be a decent camera to start with because I already have a Canon Rebel 3i and thought I could use the lenses I have for that camera already. I was only partly right, since I had overlooked that my EFS lenses will not work. Anyways I find myself wanting some new lenses for the rebel 2000 and found a pretty good deal on a Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens(9518B002). Am I correct in thinking that it will work on that camera, and if so is it a good idea though? Sorry for the drawn out message. I appreciate any and all input/help anybody might have on the subject!!! Thank yo

"Any EF mount lens should work."
But your specific question about the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM, the answer is, if you want a GP lens, no, its not. It is a very wide angle to wide angle zoom lens if that is what you want then, yes. As I recall the Canon Rebel 2000 shipped with a 35-80mm kit lens. That is what I would look for.

Close Ernie, but the EF 28-80mm F/3.5-5.6 II lens was the kit lens with that camera. Later it was the EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6 lens lineup. Coincidentally the EF-S 18-55mm lens lineup closes matches the old EF 28-90mm field of view. I do agree with you that a better lens would be in the 24-80mm range such as the EF 24-105mm F/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. Instead of a wide angle lens such as the EF 16-35mm F/4L IS USM lens. Unless the OP has a specific need for a wide angle lens.

Thank for your response. To go a little further with this, I do have the EF 28-80mm F/3.5-5.6 II and I have a 50mm for it as well. I find myself wanting something different though when I am using the 28-80mm though. Maybe because a I like doing more landscape photography. I just don't like my field of view when using that lens. To be honest picking a lens just really confuses me though. I usually really understand how and why to things work, but the more I try to learn about lenses and how to choose one, the more confused I get. I think I would like the wide angle lens for all my outdoor shots ( ie. Sunsets, beach, mountains, city shots from a far). Am I correct in thinking it would work for those kind of shots and still look alright with 35mm film. I know it will work on the rebel 3i I have as well so that is atleast a positive, but I really want to focus on using my rebel 2000 since it is film. Thanks again for your time and I really appreciate it.

The EF 16-35mm F/4L IS USM lens on a crop sensor camera such as your T3i wouldn't be considered a wide angle lens. Due to the image sensor's 1.6x crop. The lens' Angle of View is 25.6-56mm to get an equivalent AOV on the Rebel would be an EF-S 10-22mm F/3.5-4.5 USM lens. The lens' focal length never changes the size of the image sensor causes the crop.

Yes that is the perfect lens for your EOS 35mm film camera. Canon USA has a lineup of videos to better assist you on camera and lens types on their YouTube channel. In YouTube search up "Canon EF 101 Series" there are 9 videos in this series.

" I like doing more landscape photography."
In that case the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens is made for you. It will also work on your T3i but will not be as wide.

Actually it would anything around 25mm, which would be the FL equivalent on a T3i, is WA.

What I meant to say wouldn't be as wide as it would be on a Full Frame or 35mm Film camera.
