Hey there! New to the game and checking to see if Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens is compatible with EOS Rebel T5? I got gifted the camera and wanted to get a few lenses I also am getting the 85mm F1.8 Medium Telephoto Portrait Lens. Anyone know if they will work? Thank you so much!

"A 50mm prime is a difficult FL to live with on a cropper and an 85mm is even worse on a cropper."
I really am not all that thrilled about them on a full frame either. I ordered the 45mm f1.2 for the f1.2 aperture not the focal length.

I'm still a novice, so I still enjoy my 50mm.

Exceptional framing by the way.

There was a time when primes were king. There is nothing wrong with or using a prime lens but the fact is zooms have gotten so much better they have now taken over. My ef 85mm f1.2L and my ef 50mm f1.2L are sitting on my computer desk as we speak (type). They are beautiful lenses! 😁

"I have always taught composition first, then focus nuances, then exposure in that order."
The thing that is difficult and perhaps not possible to correct in post is focus. Comp and exposure are readily corrected and edited. A photo that needs to be sharp needs to be sharp form the camera/lens.
The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens is not a high IQ lens but it just seems to work. It came from a time when zooms were not high IQ lenses at least compared to the primes of the time.

Agreed.
Sharpness is not a required parameter for every photograph to be "good". A lot of Cartier-Bresson's images are not necessarily tack sharp.
So if I am teaching street photography, tack sharpness is not #1. If I'm teaching product photography, then sharpness is highly desirable.
Focus or lack thereof is 100% subsumed in composition.
It's all about developing a sense of what is required for a given photographic task.
