I've had this lens about 10 years now. It was first repaired for the issue back in 2019 (replaced the aperture module).
I'm getting the same issue again, 4 years later - and cleaning does not resolve the issue this time, so I'm guessing it's probably the same mechanical issue as last time.
Is this particularly prone to this issue? Anyone know why?

Sorry - I’m missing something in your reply.

The flex cable in the lens has failed. Time to get a quote from Canon to repair it.

I kinda know that - as it’s not the first time. The question was more to understand if / why this lens is particularly prone to it, especially after having been repaired once before. Do you know if 4 years is a reasonable time to have it recur?

I own a copy of the EF 24-70mm F/2.8L II USM lens. I've never had the flex cable fail in my lens. The oldest lens that my dad still owns is the EF 70-210mm F/4 lens. This lens is from 1987 and it still works like it did brand new in 1987. This was Canon's first telephoto lens to the new EOS system. This lens uses an Arc- Form Drive AF Motor. All released lenses for the new EOS system used this until 1992.

It seems to be a flexing/wear issue. Actual time is not a factor.

It is the one that gets significant use, but weirdly my 20-35 F2.8, which is another workhorse (and a lot older) has not the same issue. Go figure.
Thanks

The EF 20-35mm F/2.8L lens is another one of those original EOS/ EF system lenses. That lens also uses an Arc-Form Drive AF Motor. These lenses have limitations when it comes to fps.
