24-105mm L Image Stabilization Issue - Only Works on Live View

Hello, just got a 24-105mm to my 5d mkii.

However the lens jumps/shakes in the viewfinder and makes a loud noise when halfpressing the shutter button.

  • Happens in both af/mf and IS turned on or off. Seems to be happening more when IS is turned off. When using liveview the issue goes away. Its like the IS fails to engage and it jumps. When the IS is engaged it wont occur if i keep it engaged.

When it jumps/shakes it stops if i tilt the camera to the right. Linked a video of the issue https://youtube.com/shorts/t72vM32qemU?si=9dyoVycxvFAcRqtD

Greetings,

What version is the copy of this lens?  mkI mkIi.

Look at the lens face.

Can you give us the back story on this lens please.  Where did you get it?

I should have added that your lens appears to be broken.  Please inspect its mount and contacts closely.  Can you test it on another body?

Mk1 very well used. Got it second hand from the internet. Wont be able to return just a reduction in the price

Yeah i guessed so, wondering if i can fic it myself since canon probably wont take it for service. No other body to test on, i do have other lenses that works fine on the body.

I got a 24‑105mm lens for my 5D Mark II, but it shakes and makes noise when half‑pressing the shutter, mostly when IS is off. Live View fixes it, and tilting the camera helps. With US Mobile Plans, watching online guides to troubleshoot this is easy. https://usmobiles.us/

Not a beginner repair if you have no experience repairing complex lenses it's not a good idea. On the other hand if you don't care if it ever works again have at it. That's how we learn.
