scanning scientific papers in a pdf format. Why is this now so difficult?

I used my old canon printer to scan scientific papers into a pdf format; it took seconds to set up. I updated my computer and bought a new MG3500 printer/scanner.

 

<Removed Per Guidelines>  how do I scan multi page science papers into PDF format now? 

 

I've tried everything and nothing seems to work?

 

HELP PLEASE
