MP830 Print Head error on startup. I just want to use this device as a scanner

A few weeks ago I started getting an Printhead error on my MP830.  The error message appears at startup, and prevents any other use of this all-in-one device, including scanning. Is there any way I can continue to use the MP830 as a scanner only?

PIXMA MG3220 Error when printing pdf

I get a "Status" = "Error" when i try to print Adobe PDF files.  I get the error from either Adobe Reader or Safari (or any other App that lets me open a pdf).  I can print pdf files via "Preview" however. OSX 10.7.5Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
