Did you mean:

Turn Enable bi-directional support on in the printer's Properties dialog box.

With my MP250 printer, when I  try to print now shows in a box on my PC the message " Cannot communicate with the printer.
Turn Enable bi-directional support on in the printer's Properties dialog box."

Looking at my Canon desktop app there appears to be no  'dialog box'.

Please help.

This worked like a charm for me:

  1. Select Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer name, then select Printer properties.
  3. Select the Ports tab.
  4. Select the Enable bidirectional support check box.
  5. Click OK.

Cannot communicate with the printer.
Turn Enable bi-directional support on in the printer's Properties dialog box

Hi rlamartine,

Please double check to make sure you are in the correct location:

 1.  Click on the Windows Start button in the lower left hand corner (and then the Windows System folder if using Windows 10).

 2.  Click on Control Panel.

 3.  Click on View devices and printers.

 4.  Right click the Canon MG7100 series Printer and left click on Printer Properties.

 6.  Place a check in the box next to Enable bidirectional support.

There is no ports tab. None.

Hi PlanetClaire,

What model printer do you own?

What version of Windows is installed on your computer?

Are you using your printer wirelessly?  or with a USB cable?
