MAXIFY MB2720 - won't automatically switch trays

This letter to Microsoft forum brought thoughtful answers, but no improvement. Answers continue to point to printer.

Many hours with Canon--I hope this is enough info. I have my 4th Canon MB2720 in the last 10 years. My laptop is an Acer. Until this printer I had envelopes in cassette (and tray) #1, plain paper in cassette #2 (and tray). This newest printer insists on printing everything from tray #1, regardless what is in the tray. It will print a letter or an address but both from #1. Letters are printed on envelopes, envelopes on paper or envelope. Two 3-hour calls with Canon support, untold hours with AI and here's what we've done in multiples:

~installed new drivers; uninstalled all printers and reinstalled printer drivers

~Uninstalled printer, reinstalled printer 4 times (three from a Canon-provided address, once from CD

~Used Google, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge as different platforms for the Canon installation program.

~We have ensured that drawer #1 has "Envelope Com 10/Envelope" and drawer #2 has Standard/paper. The two drawers have been registered for the proper contents as has the laptop. On the laptop, the procedure is supposed to automatically change. If I click on #1 cassette it will print on #1. If I select #2 it may print from #1 OR #2.

~Thinking it was the WORD part of Office 365 I tried printing through Libre--no better

~We have eliminated the printer as the problem because everything corresponds perfectly with the printer specifics. I have had this specific problem since Feb 21st and I need help please. I want to have ONLY envelopes in tray #1 and ONLY paper in tray #2. I want to print ONLY envelopes from tray #1 and ONLY 8.5X11 from tray #2. Just like the previous 3 printers. I know the first finger I'd point would be at the printer as the culprit, but I feel we've eliminated that.

Furtrher noodling last night brought this: if I want to print an envelope, I go to Word , Mailing, address the envelope, Print. Out comes the envelope. If I want to print the letter (from Word, or anything other than an envelope) I go to Print, Printer properties, move the cursor at the top to Standard, then to media info (plain paper), change A4 to Letter, apply it to the driver, re-check the drop-down for paper size to make sure it shows 8.5X11, push Print and hope. You cannot consume alcohol while dealing with this. Canon support has been generous with their time, but they think it's Microsoft. The Microsoft community think it's Canon. One suggestion was to bypass the WiFi, but I've not tried that. I don't think I have that cable but can get one if enough positive replies. I am able to type with only one finger and I think it's getting ready to drop off. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks~ Grid
