Scanning Problem with Windows 8.1

Drdoney
Apprentice

I've had scanning problems with my Canon MF4350d printer ever since I installed Windows 8 (now 8.1) last winter.  The only way I can get theprinter to scan is by:

  1.  Disconnect the cable from printer

  2.  Uninstall the Toolbox and printer drivers

  3.  Turn off and restart my PC

  4.  Reinstall the Toolbox and printer drivers

  5.  Turn off and restart my PC

  6.  Reconnect the cable to printer

The scanner works once and only once after I do this.  Thereafter, either I get an error message "Cannot communicate with scanner" or the computer hangs up and the Task Manager tells me that the MF Toolbox is not responding.  I can't scan another docuement without undertaking the 6-step procedure outlined above.

This is driving me nuts.  Any solutions/ideas out there?  Any help will be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi Drdoney.

I will be glad to assist you.  Please perform the following steps and verify if you experience the same error:

1. Open the Windows desktop.

2. Right click on the MF Toolbox icon and click properties.

3. Click the Compatibility tab, then click "Change settings for all users".

4. Put a check next to "Run this program as an administrator", then click Apply and OK.

5. Click OK again on the properties screen.

The MF Toolbox should operate normally for scanning.

I hope this information is helpful to you.  Should the error persist, or you need further assistance, please contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666).

By golly your solution appears to be working, although I performed the procedure I outlined in my initial question this morning and had the scanner working then.  But it has never before worked 5 hours later.  I have high hopes for tomorrow.  And if it's fixed (as it appears to be), I am forever in your debt.  This issue has been driving me half crazy for 7 months.

Many, many thanks Patrice!
