Replace Ink cartridge


I replaced the black ink cartridge in my MX492 printer and now it gives me a message " Check Ink 1686" and won't print.

What is written on the ink cartridge( ink number, where the ink cartridge was made, etc), also please let us know where you purchased the ink cartridge from.

Its a Canon Fine Cartridge 245 Black  (2719G02).  The person I bought the printer from does not recall where he purchased the cartridge.


You can try holding the stop button down on the printer for 5 seconds then release it. If that does not resolve the issue, I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer. 

If the ink cartridge is still not detected, there may be a issue with the cartridge or the sensor in the printer. Since the printer is out of warranty, you  would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price.
