I have a 8580. Every since installing Windows 8.1 on my Surface Pro, I cannot wirelessly scan as I once could. The MF toolbox has the following error: "Cannot communicate with scanner. The cable may be disconnected or the scanner turned off. Check the scanner status and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated".
My computer and the printer are wirelessly connected. On the printer I am using remote scan prior to opening the MF toolbox. I have tried installing all of the latest drivers and software off the Canon website with no luck.

Please verify that the MF8580 is registered in the MF Network Scan Utility by following the instructions below:
If you are still unable to scan after the machine is registered in the scan utility, we recommend that you contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666).
