Print from iPad - Upper Cartridge wants paper?

Trying to print a simple pdf doc using AirPrint. It should print in 8.5x11 standard size, but the printer keeps giving an error and wants me to load the upper cassette with paper. Not sure why, it can't fit the paper size I want to print with?
