My Pixma MX892, which I would guess is a little over a year old, has suddenly stopped working. I was able to print just two days ago, but now the unit will not turn on at all. Yes it is plugged in and yes the cord is connected to the unit. It simply won't start no matter how many times the power button is pushed or how long it is held down. Is this a known issue and what might be a way to fix this problem?

add me to this list
purchased MX892 on Nov 2012. earlier this week it would not turn on. tried everything listed here and in other forums to no avail. it worked flawlessly until now. the "most recent" Amazon reviews for this printer and littered with 1-star complaints about this issue. makes you wounder if Canon used a "kill switch" part in order to push more sales...
if anybody files or comes across a class action suit please post here.

I bought this printer (Canon MX890 ) about two years ago and I use only once a week or once from every two weeks for not more than 3 pages of printing at a time. This morning I noticed that the printer is OFF and tried anything to turn it back on ( Including the instruction by Canon online ) , but it does not turn on. I believe there is a fundumental problem with their Power Supplies and they are not saying it. Not happy.

Yup another dead MX892 here. Canon Tech support no help and unsympathetic. As a photographer I have spent well over $15K over the years and not happy at all the way they are handling this. Time to go by and Epson replaement.

Add one more dead MX892 to the tally.
I was in the middle of printing a page and suddenly it powered off. It will not turn on again.
A quick google search revealed that many others experienced the same problem. Canon should ackknowledge that this issue is a common problem and repair or replace these units free of charge.
I will definitely not be purchasing a Canon product again.
Now what to do with all these extra canon ink catridges...

I'm also in the same boat as everyone else. I just went to try and use my printer and it was dead. I've contacted support but I don't know what to expect. There's no reason for this printer to just up and die. It was barely used, once a month at best, and even then that was probably to scan a document. If they blow me off then I certainly would never buy another Canon product again. I bought this printer because I thought of Canon as a good company with quality products.

since very few people pay the ridiculous prices for OEM ink, Canon has offset that by making the printers "throw away". they use the cheapest parts available with the expectation that these things last until the warranty runs out. you can find deals on them for ~$50 (price i paid for my MX892) almost every month. it is almost to the point that you can just buy a new printer when your intial ink cartriges run out for less money than replacing the ink. the worst part is the volume of toxic trash that ends up in landfills...

After reading many of these posts, maybe I should feel lucky that my MX892 lasted 2 years and 2 months before it died suddenly. Will not power on. It worked well until yesterday when it just quit.
For years I associated the name Canon with quality, but they are taking a serious hit with this product. It would have been a huge PR gain for Canon if they had stepped up, bit the bullet and made good on all of these defective printers. They chose a different route, and are losing loads of customers as a result. Not smart.
Am looking at a Brother laser printer for my next purchase. So far, the research looks promising. Time will tell.
Adios, Canon.
