Hi, I bought a new laptop. I can print from it no problem. But the scanner is only connected to my old laptop. I cannot figure out how to make scans go to my new laptop. I have windows 8. Thanks.

Hi oasis1180,
You will need to have the printer drivers and the IJ Scan Utility program (installed with the printer drivers) installed on your laptop in order to scan wirelessly. If you need to download the latest drivers for your printer, you can do so from the Canon USA website. Please click here to go to the Drivers and Software page for the PIXMA MG5420. Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:
1. Verify that the operating system detected in the "OPERATING SYSTEM" drop-down menu is correct, and if it is not, please click the drop-down menu to select your operating system.
2. Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "DRIVERS" section and click the MINI MASTER SETUP file. When you do, a red DOWNLOAD button will appear. Please click on the checkbox below the DOWNLOAD button, then click the red DOWNLOAD button to begin the download. The time for the download process may vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file being downloaded.
Once you have downloaded the Mini Master Setup file, please double-click on the file and follow the prompts to install the printer and IJ Scan Utility software on your computer.
Once the drivers and program are installed, you will want to ensure that the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX is running on your computer so you can scan wirelessly. To do this, from the Windows Start screen, near the bottom of the window below the tiles you will see a down arrow. Please click on the arrow, then look for the Canon Utilities section and click on the icon for the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX. Once the program is launched, please follow these steps to scan:
1. Oepn the IJ Scan Utility.
2. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
3. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN or PHOTO SCAN option on the left pane of the window, depending on what you would like to scan.
4. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the desired option. If you are scanning a multipage document, select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option. Note: If you are scanning photos, you will have the option of scanning items as JPEG, TIFF or PNG format.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder.
5. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save the changes. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
6. Click the DOCUMENT or PHOTO button, depending on what you are trying to scan. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed. Scanned images are saved in previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
If you find that you need advanced scanning options such as adjusting resolution, brightness, contrast, saturation, color balance, etc. in addition to the options selected above, please click on the SCANGEAR button on the IJ Scan Utility Main screen, then adjust the items as necessary.
Hope this helps!

Hi oasis1180,
Are you using your PIXMA MG5420 wirelessly or with a USB cable?
