I tried the CD-Rom to add driver, it says 'printer detected' then switches to 'printer not detected'. I tried downloading updated drivers, it did the same thing. I tried restarting my computer and starting the installation over, it didn't work either. Same error. I've always used hp printers before, I'm thinking about taking this thing back and getting another hp. Is there anything else I could try?
I'm running Windows 10, and the printer is connected, not wireless.

Hello Infistorm,
If the setup detects the printer and then switches to not detected, it will usually mean that the computer is not reading the device properly. In this situation, you can go in to devicemanager and then you can try right clicking and uninstalling any connections for the printer.
While the printer is connected and turned on, press the Windows key and the letter R key at the same time on your keyboard. In the run box that appears, you can type in "devicemgmt.msc" and click OK. In device manager, check for any headings for other devices. If you see other devices, you can click the arrow next to and then you can right click and uninstall any connections for the MG2500. You can also check under Universal Serial Bus controllers and then you can right click and uninstall any connections for USB printing support or the MG2500.
Once those have been unsintalled, you can disconnect the printer. You can download and reinstall the setup from the link HERE and then you can reconnect the printer once the setup asks to connect the printer.

Finally I resolved my problem.
Environment: Dell XPS One 2720, Windows 11 home
Solution:
1. Disconnect any other USB devices other than MG2522 and keyboard, keep MG2522 off.
2. Run MG2522 setup program. Select only MP driver and quick menu, disselect all others.
3. Power on MG2522 when setup program need detect.
4. Bingo! I succeed (though after several days trying to follow the titled solution here many times but still failed).
Wish my solution also works for you and others that can't succeed using the titled solution above.

I tried for over 2 months to do what Canon told us to do but it never worked. I tried what pegasusCanon said that they did and it worked like a charm.

The accepted solution didn't work for me, and for awhile I thought it had damaged my laptop. I am still not sure the laptop is okay.
When I tried the solution, devicemgmt.msc was not found, so I started typing device manager in the search box. At some point that brought up the device manager. Other devices didn't have anything obvious about the mg2522 so I tried uninstalling unknown device. The Universal etc had nothing likely looking.
Then I continued. It took 20-30 minutes to download and almost as long to try to install then it got to the printer connection panel where it had been failing. It sat there forever.
So I tried stopping the installation, if it was even running, There is no progress indicator. That left the system in a state where it wouldn't restart without about an hour of work, including it installing Windows updates even though I have updating turned off. Now my ystem is up but noticeably slow.

I followed all the directions and still didn't get it installed.....until I realized that my new computer had Windows 11 in S mode which blocked all apps and programs that didn't originate with Microsoft. I had to go to the Microsoft store and turn off S mode and then all the directions given here work just fine! Now my printer and computer are on speaking terms! Thanks!

I've had many issues with connecting this printer as well and was on here looking for a solution and came across the 1 that said to hit the windows key + R. I did that and said the device.msc could not be found. So, I clicked the start menu and went down to Canon, there I found Canon Utilities, under that there was My Printer. I opened My Printer and a repair window came up. Said to close all programs other than the My Printer and the Repair Printer. I ran the diagnostic, recommended 2 things. Something about an icon, and I think something about making this the default printer. I agreed to both. It said the problem was fixed so I printed the test page which came out perfect. Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem with the device.msc way.

This is ridiculous! I have never had to jump through these hoops with printers in the past. In the past I plug it in and it prints. No more Canon printers.
