Pixma IP8720 suddenly not detected

JoeZy

When I first set up this printer - it would not connect wirelessly - fine - I set it up using USB - worked fine.

The next day - suddenly the printer could not be detected.  Spent a lot of time trouble shooting but eventually deleted  the driver and ran the set up again from the CD  -- everything went back to normal.

That happened twice since and although a hassle, repeated the set up and all good.

Today - it happened again (after months of working fine) -  I had finished printing about 30 13x19s with no problem.  About an hour later - the printer could not be detected.

I repeated removing the driver and device but this time running the set up again did not work (USB)

I've rebooted my computer and ran the set up 5 times - but then it gets stuck at "Turn on the Printer" -- nothing I've done can get it to detect the printer - even tried the wireless again to see if that would work --  nope --

any help is appreciated

Thanks for joining the conversation, JoeZy!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which operating system is running on your computer (i.e. Windows or macOS, and which version thereof). That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

Thanks and have a great day!

The computer is still on windows 7 but it has been working great for months  -- it suddenly stopped working and will not reinstall -- can't detect the printer.  No software has been added between when it was working and when it stopped being detected.  I had also had turned off the firewall and virus protection - no change in behavior.
