PIXMA iP8720: Print start position measurement varies 1/4 inch.

Print start position measurement varies 1/4 inch with the same image.

Why doesn't the printer repeat the same measured distance from the beginning edge of the paper? I have tested another ip8720....same issue!

After reviewing the possible causes I realized I needed to go to larger width paper. I was trying to do offsets for accurate centering from photoshop with 8.1 inch width image on 8.5 inch paper width paper. I believe it was causing software printing confusion shifting the start position. Thank you the possible answers.

Hi. Thanks for contributing to the Canon Community. I see that the printer's start position varies when printing the same image.

If you have not done so, you can try performing the Roller Cleaning option. Here is a link to the manual page that provides instructions:
For Windows: https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/PrinterDriver/W/iP8700%20series/1.0/EN/PPG/dg-c_roller.html
For Mac: https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/PrinterDriver/M/iP8700%20series/1.0/EN/PPG/dg-c_roller.html
Note: In step 2, there is a link that you can use to help you open the Driver Settings window (on a Windows computer) or the IJ Printer Utility (on a Mac computer). That is the window where you can initiate the Roller Cleaning.

I also recommend reviewing the instructions for loading paper with this link:
https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/iP8700%20series/EN/BG/bg-loading1400.html

The following page provides some additional hints that might help:
https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/iP8700%20series/EN/UG/ug_trouble2700.html

If none of the above helps, you can try reinstalling the printer driver. It can be downloaded from the following website:
https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-ip8720

Should you continue to need assistance, we will need more information. Please provide answers to the following questions:

  • Where does the printer start printing the image? For example, does it print starting at .25 inches of the leading edge on one print, and then .5 inches on another print?
  • What type(s) of paper are you using?
Please list each paper type if using more than one.
  • How thick (heavy) is that paper?
If using more than one paper type, please include the paper thickness information for the thickest and thinnest paper.
  • How many sheets of paper are you loading at one time?
  • Which program are you using to view and print your images?
  • What operating system is your computer running?
  • If you select the option to print multiple copies, does the start position change?

It might also help if you can attach photos of your prints so we can see if there are signs to any other issues.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
