PIXMA iP8720 Lost print quality in last Mac OS Update: Sonoma 14.4

I just recently set up my PIXMA iP8720 printer on my Mac Mini and have been printing B&W with surprisingly good results.  However, yesterday morning I updated to Sonoma 14.4 and uninstalled the printer then re-installed the driver (as some source on the web said needed to be done) which resulted in the darkest values (dark gray to black) becoming mottled and totally lacking in  detail.  I'm using the Canon driver 16.80.0.0.  Plenty of ink and it prints a perfect test page.  Also, even though I used the same settings as on the earlier, very good prints, the tonality has changed as well.  Where the first set were dead on neutral the prints, since the update prints are now very warm, almost sepia in appearance. This printer has precious few controls in the interface, Tone (slider set in middle), Brightness (three choices, light, normal, dark), and intensity and contrast, both sliders.  If anyone has any insight into this shift in print quality and tone I would appreciate hearing about it.

I'm using PremierArt 270gsm Smooth coated paper.  I've used it for years on other machines.  No error messages.  I'm printing out of Photoshop which is always current.  The printer is connected to the computer via USB.  The "change in tonality", I have just discovered, is my error.   Curiously if I select the Matte Photo Paper in the Quality & Media section I get the neutral tones.  If I select "Other Fine Art Papers" I get the sepia look.  I have tried setting intensity at -50 (lowest) and contrast at 50 (highest) and I get a very washed out image but one rich in all detail.  As both sliders start coming back towards the center of the scale the mottling in the darker tones reappears.  Let me know if more info is needed.
