Hi Fuzzmaster,
With your iP2820 on and the USB cable connected, please place your cursor over the Windows button at the bottom of your screen and press the right mouse button. Click on Device Manager with your left mouse button.
Does your printer appear in the list?
If it does, right click it and remove it. When it is removed, please disconnect the USB cable and then run the installation again.
If you are unable to locate the driver installer, a direct link to it is here:
iP2800 series Printer Driver Ver. 2.75

It is somewhat typical to have to install the driver/software BEFORE connecting the printer to the computer. The computer will not see the printer if not done this way.
Is this what your printer's instructions say to do?
Start from scratch. Uninstall all printer apps and driver. Reboot computer. Install software & driver. Connect printer.
Any better?
