Trying to set up printer and I keep getting error code 1240 telling me to pull out paper output tray which is already out.  I can not print and the error code repeats each time I pull the tray out>

Hello!

Congratulations on your new #TeamCanon printer! There is a walk-through for setting up or re-setting up your printer. Tap this: https://canon.us/tr8622asetup and follow all of the steps. It should answer your questions!

If you've done that, and find you still need help, reach out to support at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666), weekdays from 9am to 6pm, Eastern Time.

I just purchased a new one as well and keep getting error code 1240 - and although I followed all directions on this forum; it still does not print correctly.  Every time something is sent tot he printer we getting the error code.  This printer is basically USELESS!    Yes, I did turn off & plug back in as well.  tried calling cannon.  waited 5 hours in que & no one came to line!  returning this piece of crap asap!

I think you need to open the operational/control panel just lift it up leave it up to print and make sure the output tray is extended.

This sounds super frustrating.

Setting up a new printer should be a seamless experience, and hitting a persistent error code right out of the box is definitely not the intended start.

Error Code 1240 is a specific "Action Required" state. In most cases, this isn't a mechanical failure but a sensor detecting that the printer isn't physically ready to receive a page. This happens if:

  1. The Operation Panel is closed: The front face of the printer (where the screen is) must be tilted open/upward for the printer to function.
    Raise Operation PanelRaise Operation Panel

  2. The Output Tray is retracted: The tray that catches the paper must be fully extended.

If you have already confirmed both of these are open and you’ve performed a power cycle, there may be a small piece of protective packing material or a stuck sensor internally.

I also want to address the 5-hour hold time you mentioned. That is highly unusual for our official support line and often suggests a third-party support site may have provided an incorrect number. To ensure you are supported by genuine Canon technicians, please use our verified line at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666). We are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm ET. If the unit is indeed brand new and these steps don't clear the code, our team can help you look into your warranty options.
