PIXMA TR8620a USB connection no longer recognized on Windows desktop PC

My 2 year old Pixma TR8620a inkjet printer is connected to my Windows desktop PC via USB printer cable. The other day, it stopped working and the following error message was displayed: "USB Device Not Recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." I tried using other USB ports. I tried using a new USB printer cable. I tried downloading and installing the latest printer driver from the Canon support website. I tried turning the PC off and on again. Nothing has made a difference. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

My PC is running Windows 10. The printer had bee working fine up until a couple of weeks ago.

Greetings,

I'd try connecting the printer to a different ISB port.  Also try connecting another USB device to ensure there isn't a problem with your OS or hardware.

Have you tried a different USB port..

I tried connecting the printer to several different USB ports with the same result. I have a USB webcam which is working fine, so I'm pretty confident the problem is not with the USB ports on the PC.
