PIXMA TR8620 - only printing in black ink

Initially the printer was only printing color and not black so I replaced the ink cartridges and cleaned the ink head. Now the printer is only printing black. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

If you run a nozzle check and several deep cleanings and you still aren't getting all colors to print then you most likely have a clogged/failed print head. If you tried one of the methods described on YouTube and still have no luck you probably need to replace the print head.

I have the same problem. TR8620. Mac OS 10.13.6. Everything was fine last time I used this printer, though it was a few weeks ago. Now printing only from the black cartridge. Using canon ink. cleaned print heads, updated firmware, updated driver, did hard reset on printer. restarted laptop. seems like a software problem to me. checked all settings, etc. Still only black. Ugh!

Confirming - did you run a nozzle check after the cleanings?

yes, and ran one after each attempted solution. black grid was fine. but nothing else on the page

I am not a Canon rep, so this is just my opinion, but if you tried some deep cleanings without success then I say you have nothing to lose by trying one of the head cleaning videos on YouTube.

also took out the print head... cleaned the ports with alcohol and qtips to no avail. Might give up and chuck it in the dishwasher later.

However.... I was incorrect about the branded ink - I am using generic. same cartridges worked before but not now (neither before or after firmware update). The large black print cartridge is dispatching perfectly - have used half the contents on this project. seems like the printer just refuses to use the color cartridges (not printing in gray scale, only getting image portions that come from single black print cartridge. Can't help but wonder.. did my printer suddenly decide to act like a jerk refuse to recognize non-branded ink?

Did a deep clean. Used the video in the link below. Print head is now as clean as the day it was born. Still no color ink!! As a point of interest, when I put it all back together the printer recognized my ink cartridges as canon brand, so that's not the problem either.

I am truly at a loss.
