PIXMA 4720 - installed new Canon ink cartridges after starter cartridges ran out. Now my print quality is terrible. I've run the maintenance, nozzle cleaning, deep cleaning, head adjustment, roller cleaning.. nothing helps. My printer is less than 4 months old. Canon support is horrible - I work during their "open" hours so unable to speak or even "chat" with tech support. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi joanio406,
Please follow these steps:
1. Please press the wrench and screwdriver button on your TR4720 one time.
2. Repeatedly press the right arrow key to select Maintenance and press OK.
3. Press OK on Nozzle check and a test page will print.
Once that page prints, please take a photo of that page and then post that image in your reply of my message.
Also, please remove both ink cartridges and place them side by side with the labels showing. Please take a photo of the ink cartridges and please post that image in your reply as well.

Are they genuine Canon cartridges? If not I suggest you change them, If they are I think the color one may be bad, Canon will replace it if notified.

Nozzle check test and a sample of the color profile it's printing everything in. Both Canon and generic color cartridges, it makes no difference, same color profile.

Boiseboz, I assume yours is also a TR4720 printer. It appears that you have a bad color cartridge. I had the exact same nozzle check pattern with my MG3620, which printed everything with a red cast, and it was fine once I replaced the cartridge, which was half full at the time. You can run a deep clean. I can also suggest you clean the cartridge contacts inside the printer with a dry paper towel. If nothing changes, that may verify that the cartridge is bad.
FYI A nozzle check bypasses your computer's print drivers and color profiles. Instead, it commands the printer to run an internal diagnostic test that forces the print head to eject pure, 100% saturated ink from every single nozzle. The goal is to print raw grids of black, cyan, magenta, and yellow to help you identify any clogged nozzles or missing lines.

That was my first thought was because it was a new generic cartridge, but then I put the previous cartridge back in as it had a tiny bit of ink in it and it did the same thing. I'll order a new cartridge and run another deep clean (ran like 4 of those) and will clean the cartridge contacts as you suggested.

Yes it is, I totally understand, I had a cartridge misprinting, changed it and then it misprinted, both were remanufactured Canon cartridges. I replaced with a genuine Canon cartridge and that took care of the color problem.
