PIXMA TR4720 paper sticks out of paper tray

When I load paper works fine. When I try to close the paper tray the paper sticks out about 1/8 to 1/4 inch at the top so it won't close. Is this normal do I have to take the paper out to close the tray?

You will want to remove the paper when you want to close the paper try.

I just set up my Canon TR4720 tonight.  Was shocked that the paper cannot be left in the printer.

I consider that a really cheap design compromise.  Shame on Canon.  

Fortunately, this printer is at my cabin in the mountains and will not see much use. Otherwise, I would trash it and order the same Canon printer I have at home which is somewhat more expensive.
