I have not been unable to print anything due to the error I am getting on my printer.
I did purchase genuine Canon 246 cartridge, but the problem persists.
Is there any way I can clear the code or override it?
Is there a way I can print with just the black cartridge?

Hi,
If you have the previous ink cartridge, you can try installing that to clear the error. If you can clear then error then try to set the print for black ink only.
If the error wont clear, the printer will require service.
If the printer is in it's 1 year warranty, I recommend reaching out to Canon support for your warranty options. You will need to register your Canon gear HERE to access additional support options.
If the printer is out of warranty, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

Hi,
You can hold down the stop button on the printer for 5 seconds to try and bypass the color ink. If that does not work and you are running Windows, please click HERE for the steps to set the printer for Black ink only through the printer driver.

This did not work. I am unable to get to the menu to make a change; the screen and keyboard is locked out because of the error message. Any other ideas?
(I did hold down the "STOP" button, but that did not work.)

Hi,
I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer.
If this does not clear the error, do you have the previous cartridge that you could reinstall in the printer just so you clear the error and change the driver setting to black ink only?

I did turn on the printer and then unplugged the power cord and pressed the power button 5-times. I waited 60 seconds and plugged the power cord back in; the printer came on automatically. Both print cartridges were present. However, this did not clear the error message.
While the error message is present on the screen, I am unable to use the menu button. The keyboard is locked. I cannot get to the printer driver setup window to change to black ink only.
Any further suggestions?
