Hi,

I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer.

If the issue persists and the printer is in it's 1 year warranty, I recommend reaching out to Canon support for your warranty options. You will need to register your Canon gear HERE to access additional support options.

If the printer is out of warranty, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.

Didn’t work. I guess I need a new printer.

I found the following:

1. Canon : Inkjet Manuals : TR4500 series : 7700

or

Description

Error 7700 is displayed by a 2 cartridge printer model after cartridge replacement or after an ink has ran out. It may also happen with brand new printers if using old ink cartridges in them.

Solution

This issue is caused by damaged contacts on a print head. It is a common issue with refilled cartridges or third party cartridges that our printers fail to recognized. The solution to this issue is to replace the cartridges on the printer with Canon branded cartridges, beginning with the cartridge the last replaced before the error started to occur.
If the steps provided do not resolve this concern, it suggests that your printer requires servicing to resolve this problem.

There are two options currently available to you.
  1. Warranty Service – If you are within the 1-year manufacturer’s warranty and have your proof of purchase you are entitled to service or replacement. If you have purchased a CarePak Canon extended warranty, you may be entitled to additional options. Please contact our support team regarding service.
  2. Out of Warranty – If you are outside of your warranty period, we recommend contacting our support team for possible options

If I buy cartridges from canon directly and it still doesn’t work can I return them back to canon?  They are expensive since I need two- a black and a color cartridge.
