Win 11 wi-fi, no errors, print head removed and cleaned, replaced cartridges, etc etc and as I said my printout looks exactly like API posted above. Wavy lines through the middle of the black grid. The workaround suggested by someone is to print your documents in, in my case Dark Lime...evidently that eliminates the printer using the large black cartridge (labeled PGBK) and solves the problem. I did not clean the timing tape.

Hi garygulbransen,
Cleaning the encoder/timing strip will resolve this issue.
To clean the encoder/timing strip, please follow the steps outlined in the following Knowledgebase Article available from our web site:

Any other suggestions? My nozzle check pattern is exactly the same only for the PGBK. I have cleaned the timing strip twice and do not see any smudges or dirt on the strip. I have cleaned the printheads by hand, done numerous cleaning/deep cleaning cycles. No change in the pattern. Printing anything in black ink has either smudges every other line of text.

I have the same issue and attempting to clean the encoder strip multiple times has had no effect.

The PIXMA MX922 may experience double printing, particularly with the PGBK (Pigment Black) ink, due to several common issues:
To address double printing, follow these steps:
Check Print Head Alignment:
Inspect the Print Head:
Perform Deep Cleaning:

Thanks, DerrickL for the response. I've done print head alignment, both automatic and manual with little to no effect. I've not tried to clean the back side of the timing strip and not sure how to even do that. I don't see any value in running more print head cleaning cycles. I am confused about the timing strip. Why is only black impacted? I can print text clearly in any color except black. I can print photos very well. I've had the print head out of the printer a couple of times. The performance is unchanged. Colors fine, black blurry or double printing.

Print a nozzle check, if the black is not correct, I suspect that the black print head needs to be replaced.
To check the functionality of the print head on your Canon MX922, follow these steps:
Navigate to Maintenance
Select Nozzle Check

Thanks, DerrickL for the feedback. My nozzle print check looks just like the example referred to at the top of this thread. Is the black print head replaceable or does the whole print head need to be replaced. Thx again.

The Nozzle check should not look like the image I have added. If the black does not look like a very legible grid pattern, I still think that verifies the black ink part of the head is not working correctly. You have aligned it and deep cleaned it and if the grid is not correct then I still thing the printhead has a serious issue. The MX922 only had one print head, prints both in color and black. The trouble is finding a Canon one for sale as opposed to a third party. This is the best I could find, you might check the reviews, but before that, could you post the nozzle check for us to view? It would be good to have another member here verify if possible that this is a printhead issue.
