Hi stitches13,

When new ink cartridges are installed, the printer will automatically detect and update the ink levels; there is not a manual way of resetting the unit to update the ink levels.  To try and resolve the issue, please take all of the ink cartridges out of the printer, turn the unit off, then turn it back on, and place the ink cartridges back inside the printer. It should then update the ink levels accurately.  Please note that the ink levels of refilled or third-party ink cartridges used in the printer may not be able to be read by the printer.  In this case, replacing the ink cartridges with Canon genuine ink cartridges should resolve the issue.

You may be able to disable the ink level detection function of the printer so that you can continue to use the functions of the printer without receiving low ink warning messages.  To do this, please press and hold down the STOP/RESET or RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer for at least 7 seconds, then release it.  Please note that you will need to perform this function for each ink cartridge that is showing it is low or out of ink.

Should you need further assistance, please call 1-866-261-9362, Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. ET (excluding holidays) and a Canon technical support representative will be happy to help.  There is no charge for this call.
