about to buy a printer for home use.

Interested in MG2540s but I see it is not described on canon website. Would like to know Mac compatibility.

Note that this forum is for Canon USA, and the printer model you mentioned appears to be sold by Canon Europe.  It is compatiple with Mac computers.  Visit Canon PIXMA MG2540S to view support information.
