I recently purchased a G6020 printer/scanner. It is fine EXCEPT that the display has no backlight and is thus unreadable. And it is important, as it often has information telling me why it is not doing what I have asked it to!
I bought a small flashlight to keep next to it so I can read it. This is a significant flaw. Does it bother anyone else?

if you're into retro tech with a side of medieval punishment, then this printer WITH NO BACKLIT screen is the perfect choice for you. It's like owning a printer from the Dark Ages, quite literally, because you'll need a flashlight to read anything on the display. Setting this thing up feels like you're trying to decipher ancient hieroglyphs in a pitch-black cave. Want to change a setting? Good luck! I hope you have night vision goggles handy, or maybe a friend with extraordinary eyesight. The screen is so dim, it could make a bat squint. Canon clearly took the "print in the dark" concept a little too seriously. It’s almost as if they’re challenging you to go back to simpler times when people squinted at the sun and hoped for the best. If you enjoy the thrill of frustration, eye strain, and a strong sense of regret, this printer will not disappoint. But if you're hoping to see what you're doing without the aid of a small bonfire, look elsewhere.

I have the exact same problem and am totally surprised that Canon did that. I purchased the printer because it was exactly what i wanted. How can they fix this stupid issue?

Yes really poor product development, products need to be easy and usable- this is neither. I mean what the team only tested it in a well lit office? This and other poor parts of user interface Ruins an otherwise not terrible product

This is a truly despicable choice by Canon. I knew I was getting the lame LCD screen, but not having a backlight is absurd. Having to upgrade to a much more expensive printer just to get a readable display is like having to pay for heated leather seats on a car just to get power steering! I'm crossing Canon off the list for my next printer. I wasted a couple of hours cobbling together a dimmable LED strip that mounts above the control panel.
