Not happy with printing with PIXMA G6020
I purchased my G6020 in 2020. I wanted to be able to use the large ink wells instead of the cartridges on my previous Canon printer to save money (which I had for many years). But I'm really unhappy with the G6020.
I only print occasionally and often end up having to do a Deep Cleaning to resolve the issue. And since my printer is located upstairs, if I print from downstairs I don't know there's a problem until I go to pick it up. So I've wasted all that paper as well.
I never had problems with my previous printer ... it just did what it was supposed to do, but the ink cartridges were so expensive. At this point, I'd almost rather go back to that!
While I'm at it, I was also very unhappy the last time I had to order ink. I think the ink selection should allow you to enter your product model number first, and then display the available inks. As it doesn't do that, I ended up buying 1 each of a GI-20, GI-21, and GI-23 expecting to get yellow, cyan, and magenta for my G6020. I thought the different numbers had something to do with the colour, not the type of printer. So I had to buy 2 more inks and I couldn't return the other two, one because I'd opened it thinking it was fine only to find out it wasn't the right one, and the other because there was no point in paying shipping to have it returned to Canon. What a waste of time and money.
I've always had Canon printers and was very happy with them. This is the first one I've not been happy with. Extremely frustrated.

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear you're unhappy with your MegaTank printer.
All inkjet printers require regular use to prevent the print heads from drying out. A MegaTank printer is for someone who prints often. If you are not the kind of user who needs this, you may want to consider a laser printer instead.
Regarding the ink refills, when purchasing from our site, the inks are marked with what color they are, as shown HERE:
Should you have questions, or need further clarification, contact our team weekdays from 9am to 6pm (ET) at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666).

Greetings,
Have you considered a laser printer as Stephen suggests? If you print a lot of photos then ink is usually the way to go, but we dumped all of our inkjets for laser. For us it has been a much better alternative. They don't dry up. They're always ready to go, and it doesn't matter how much time elapses between use. I've never had to perform a cleaning, ever 🙂 Print quality is sharp and crisp. Colors are vibrant and pop off the page. We've never looked back.

Rick, how is it for printing photos?

The problem was not selecting the colour. The problem was which printer the tank was meant for. GI-20, GI-21, and GI-23 all look like similar bottles on the website (not the colour, but that they are all ink bottles), but the difference between them is how they connect to the printer for filling, which I didn't learn until I tried to use them. So my suggestion still stands.

My wife does a lot of charts and graphics. These are mostly PowerPoint presentations. Much of the time they are presented via Zoom or Teams. Once or twice a month she has to print and hand them out when she visits a customer. I use a nice bright white paper. It costs a little more than standard copy paper but really makes colors pop. Pictures look really good. Inkjets are best for broad color gradients and portrait grade black and white. We have made several laser prints you could hang on your wall, but toner is not optimal for archival prints. This is where ink has an edge. For everyday stuff, lasers can't be beat.

While I don't do a lot of it, I do print photographs and was always happy with the quality of the Canon Inkjet printers. It doesn't sound like lasers will be a good option for me, but I appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Do you or wife use any gloss laser papers for printing photos?
