MX922 Won't Power On/Suggestions for Replacement

CraigB

I have previously posted that my Pixma MX922 would not power up.  I tried all of the suggestions that I got about holding the power button down for 30 seconds and then unplugging the unit.  Nothing worked.  I purchased a new power unit and it would power up but I kept getting error messages all of a sudden that the print head was not the correct one.  Now it won't power up again.  I'm done trying and am moving on.  The problem is that I had just bought a brand new set of ink cartridges, 250 and 251 that are still new in the box.  I was hoping to find a Canon replacement printer/scanner that would use those same cartridges, but so far no luck.  One suggestion is the Pixma TR8620a.  Does anyone have experience with this printer and what is the print quality?  Also, am I just out of luck with this brand new box of cartridges?  Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Hi,

You would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

Our sales team will check to see if any of our model printers use the same ink that you have and will work with you to find the printer that best suits your needs.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.

I have a Pixma MG5420, which uses 250 and 251 cartridges. I'm sure there are other models that do. You can try to find a used printer.

I buy my ink from LD Products online. Here's what they say about compatibility:

I have two nice Canon printers both of which I truly enjoy owning.  They've been reliable and dependable since 2013. They are a Pixma MX922 and a MG6320.  So tonight, for some odd reason they both power off and I'm unable to force power them on.  I read through all this myriad of posts and found a common theme - "if it doesn't power on, then it absolutely MUST be replaced".  I'm sorry, I simply DO NOT buy into this. But if that is true there is one of two events taking place; 1. Canon USA must hire the most incapable design engineers that can be found worldwide, or, 2. Canon is simplly fleecing consumer's pockets by intentionally and purposefully not disclosing what is necessary to successfully repair the device.  If this is the case, I proffer that it borderlines on deceptive and/or fraudulent business practices.  Anyone in their sound mind would question that the product can't be repaired.  I firmly believe its not a matter of "unrepairable" but instead a matter of "annual increases in profitability".  What this does is destroys the environment by needlessly placing electronic waste in landfills prematurely that destroys nature, wildlife, and compromises the ability to inhabit planet earth.  Its time to stop this charade and step up to bat and do the right, just, and sustainable act that protects the earth  we live on.  Canon's leadership should get a grip on this practice and implement a better and more sustainable solution.

Greetings,

Your printers, the MX922 and a MG6320 were released 10 and 11 yrs ago respectively.  Canon doesn't manufacture every part used in their construction and subsequently does not have the ability to repair devices they cannot get parts for when manufacturing or supply for them ends.  10 yrs is typical for a product's support lifecycle.  If you look at Apple, Microsoft, Sharp, Epson and others, you'll see that they follow a similar model.

Canon takes environmental and sustainability initiatives seriously.  Here is a short list of their programs:

Environment & Sustainability Initiatives | Canon U.S.A., Inc.

It's up to everyone to do their part to protect the environment, reduce their carbon footprint, resource consumption, waste generation, etc.
