I have not had an ink jet cartridge printer in several years and have heard about ink drying up. The last time I tried to print I got blank pages at first with a couple of small ink dots but later with nothing.
My cartridges show half full. I was told that Canon's microdrop technology helped to avoid the problem of cartridges drying out and it was only 2 weeks from the last time I printed. Another 2 weeks has lapsed since I tried printing.
Any recommendations?

Hello jhollner.
First, please print the nozzle check pattern to determine whether the ink is ejecting properly from the print head. To do this, please follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, then load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
2. Open the Paper Output Tray and then open the Output Tray Extension.
3. To print the nozzle check pattern:
a. Press the Setup button.
b. Select Maintenance, then press the OK button. The Maintenance screen is displayed.
c. Select Print nozzle check pattern and then press the OK button. The pattern print confirmation screen is displayed.
d. Select Yes and then press the OK button.
The nozzle check pattern is printed and the pattern confirmation screens are displayed alternately.
Examine the nozzle check pattern on the LCD of your PIXMA MX892. Check the pattern to see if any lines are missing. Missing lines or no ink appearing on the paper indicates a printhead cleaning may be required. If your printout does not match the example, please perform a printhead cleaning by selecting B and then choosing Yes. If these options are not available, please perform the following steps to perform a Cleaning:
1. Press the MENU button.
2. Select Maintenance then press the OK button.
3. Select Cleaning and press OK.
4. Press OK to select Yes.
The cleaning will be performed. After 2 or 3 cleanings, print another test page and see if there is any improvement.
If these troubleshooting steps do not work, feel free to call us at 1-800-OKCANON.

My printer is also spitting out blank pages. I went to maintenance and pressed "print nozzle check pattern" but the result of doing this was also a blank page.
What should I do next?

I had a recent problem, thinking it was empty ink tanks. I replaced two of them that were low, but it didn't help. I did a deep cleaning and it still didn't help the colors that were off. I discovered that it was a bad yellow tank. I replaced that one, and printing was normal again.
Then a week later, after only a few prints, the printer started turning out blank pages. I did a head cleaning twice, which did not help. I hae conducted three head cleanings. One part of the system says the nozzle is clogged, but another does not incicate clogged nozzzle.
The screen asks what the print pattern looked like, but there is no pattern at all.
