MX890 stopped putting ink on paper - then died

I was away from home for 4 weeks.  The MX890 printer was left with power on for that time.  On return I tried to print a page and the printer printed a stored fax page first, then a blank sheet of paper.

All ink reservoirs are full.  I tried to print the page again - same result: the page goes through and the print heads move as though they are printing but only a blank sheet appears.  I tried to copy a page - same result.  Powered down and back up again - no effect; same result.

Read on the forum than a head alignment might help so I started that process.  The sheet in the feed tray fed half way, then stopped and the printer powered itself off.  Now the power on switch does nothing - cannot power anything.

OK - I realize this is a hardware problem of some kind but wondered if others have experienced anything similar.

The printer only sees light duty and is about 3 years old.  Any ideas?

Hi travellerva,

Please try to the following to get the printer to power on:

1. Ensure that the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet instead of going through a surge protector that is plugged into a wall outlet, as sometimes ports on a surge protector may no longer work, even if other ports on the protector do.

2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet/surge protector and leave them out for at least 10 minutes, then plug it back in to try and reset the printer.

3. Try plugging the printer into another power outlet in a different area of the room, or another room if possible.

4. If you have another power cord you can use with the printer, please see if using that power cord will allow the printer to
power on.

If the printer still does not turn on after following the above steps, the printer will require servicing.  Please call or email us using one of the methods on the Contact Us page for further assistance.
