Hi Canon,
I'm a long-time user of your MX870 multifunction printer. I've used it extensively for printing a large collection of photos on photo paper from the rear feeder. Several months ago, the rear feeder mechanism started operating erratically, with the paper almost completely being ejected forward when starting the feed, with a message reading: "A paper jam has occurred".
Multiple cleaning and maintenance sessions, even trying to blow out any dust away from a presumed position sensor with compressed air, failed to eliminate the problem, and the erratic behavior only increased over time. Worse is that I switched to two other MX870 printers with the exact same situation (both of those other printers were very lightly used previously for photo printing).
This issue occurs whether I'm printing from a laptop or from an Anderoid tablet using your Canon printer app. Is this related to a position sensor problem, or possibly a software problem? I use the last updated driver downloaded from the Canon website on my laptop. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MX870 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.
Hope this helps!

We doth protest. There was no provision of an expiry date/year in sales agreements when the MX870 printers were purchased. Canon can not so claim a sunset now. The drivers and software should not be hidden as they are right now. Is Canon just looking for more profit instead of providing its customers with acceptable service? Does 'Right To Repair' need to be invoked?
