PIXMA G2411: "The printer is performing another operation"

Searched for about two hours for a solution to this apparently very common problem.

Existing Canon printer G2411, has been printing fine without problems until two weeks ago, now it keeps saying "The printer is performing another operation". Windows 11 PC.

Tried everything listed - unplug printer power for 20 seconds, restart computer, cleared the print queue, cleared the printer spool folder,  uninstalled and reinstalled printer, downloaded the drivers from Canon website and installed again, waited to let ink "load" after installing printer, etc. Nothing works. I keep getting "The printer is performing another operation"

Clearly it is a very a common problem going back many years. How is it that it has still not been solved by Canon?

I'm ready to throw it in the trash and go buy another brand.

Thank you Stephen. I waited a couple of days to see if anyone had perhaps come across this and could offer a quick and easy solution. It does seem to be quite a common issue, so I was hoping by now there might be a knowledge base article about it from Canon. I'm based in South Africa and I'm not an IT professional. I'm helping an elderly lady with her printer. Any advice or tips you might have to resolve this will be much appreciated.
