PIXMA MX490 Printer is performing another operation

I have a Pixma MX490 printer.  When I try to print a document, I get a message saying that the printer is performing another operation.  The printer will not print the document.  Any suggestions?

I know that the Pixma MX490 is no longer supported by Canon.  I was simply asking for suggestions.  The response here from Canon was a statement that the printer was no longer supported.  It would have been nice if Canon had at least provided some suggestions about how to fix the problem.

Respectfully, without you telling us the operating system (version and build) you're using the printer with and the connection method, It's pretty difficult for anyone to make anything more than a guess.  

In windows or MAC OS, this message usually means the print job is stuck or the print spooler service may be running.  It could also be related to connectivity, a problem with the print driver or possibly an incompatibility with a newer operating system?  The printer is supported on all current versions of Windows and on Mac OS through Sonoma. We can only guess based on the limited information that was provided.  

Uninstalling the device, restarting your system and reinstalling it with the latest driver or updates available might be a good first step.
