I have an MP270 Canon Inkjet printer and the system is advising that I need to 'replace the Ink Absorber' - Where can I buy this unit and how do I replace it please?

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MP270 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

As Danny wrote, the Pixma MP270 is retired.  However, I did find this Canon Support article.  It states that you'd need to replace the printer and since it's out of warranty, you can call the Sales group to inquire about upgrade options.

I don't know if this particular part is user-replacable.  It's possible you may be able to find a compatible part somewhere.  But I believe you'd be better off looking a new printer at this point.

So sad that a company as prestigious as Canon (used to be) would choose a policy that hopes to increase sales by designing in obsolescence !!! Very poor choice so I won’t be buying Canon again!

Greetings ,

With all due respect thr MP270 is 15 years old.  Would you keep a computer or mobile device for that long? I think this should be factored in to the equation.  It sounds like your printer has delivered from a return on investment standpoint.  No manufacturer supports their products indefinitely HP, Sharp, Brother, Epson, etc.  You should be thrilled that you got so many good years from the device.  That speaks to its quality.

That's fine but I didn't buy it 15 years ago (probably 6) and given the machine is not 'broken' and Canon almost GIVE the unit away to get the ink sales (like other companies - I understand that), it is disappointing (to me) and I was an IBM executive so I understand both customer retention and product turnover...  Had the part been designed as a customer replacement unit like the ink cartridges, the I might have a different perspective 🙂
