MG3620 ink cartridges not moving

Ariii

Hello. The ink cartridges in my printer are not moving. The yellow light is flashing once. There are no instructions. I was able to push a gray lever to get the cartridge to move manually but they will not move automatically. Please advise. I’ve hated this printer since the first day I got it. I think I’ll be moving to HP next time.

I own an MG3620 and so far it has been a good all around printer, not the best photo printer but not that bad. I did have two sets of cartridges that would not print. They were not Canon Cartridges, so I learned that lesson.

The gray lever inside the Canon PIXMA MG3620 is known as the ink cartridge lock lever. Its primary function is to secure the FINE cartridge in place after it has been installed.

Troubleshooting the Canon PIXMA MG3620

Understanding the Yellow Flash

A single yellow flash on the Canon PIXMA MG3620 typically indicates a problem with the carriage or printhead. This issue can prevent the ink cartridges from moving automatically (as you know)

Steps to Resolve the Issue

  1. Check Cartridge Contacts
    • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
    • Inspect the gold contact areas on the back of the cartridges and inside the printer.
    • Clean these contacts using a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
    • Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
  2. Reseat the Cartridges

    • Even if the cartridges appear to be seated correctly, remove and reinsert them a few times to ensure a good connection.
    • After reseating, turn the printer off and then back on.
  3. Check for Printhead Issues

    • If the cartridges still do not move, the printhead may be clogged.
    • Remove the cartridge and dab the printhead on a damp paper towel to check for ink flow.
  4. Manual Reset

    • If you encounter an error after refilling cartridges, you can override low ink warnings by printing until an error appears, then pressing and holding the STOP button for 5-10 seconds.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure that there are no obstructions in the printer that could prevent the carriage from moving.
