MG2522 Installed from website, only prints images, no text.

Hi all,

I have an MG2522 printer that I am installing on a refurbished Dell Optiplex 9020.  This computer is replacing another 9020 that I destroyed.  It is faster, more RAM, graphics, power, but still basically the same as the broken one.  I use Windows 10 Pro, which has had a few updates on the new machine.
I never had problems with the MG2522 printer previously.  Installing it from the original disk prompted for all upgraded software from the Canon site.  During the installation, there was a long wait.  After some time, a message popped up saying the printer was not connected.  I unplugged the USB cord, plugged it back in, and the installation continued normally.  When done, it printed a nozzle alignment page that was missing a few segments in black.  Other black areas printed fine.  Nozzle check is fine, printer responds from the computer normally.
When I tried to print one page of a PDF file, only the images printed, but no text at all.  I uninstalled the printer and tried again.  The installation stopped again saying printer not connected, and started with a replug of the USB.  Oh, this is a different cable, this time, with same results.  Again all the different document files I tried were no text.  I tried a photo, which came out normal except the colors are strangely off.  They are all there, but seem to have chosen randomly where to appear.  Hard to describe.

I have tried some tricks I've found but always get this result.  I'm guessing it is something with the drivers, and maybe Windows updates.  All colors are good on the test sheet, alignment is good, communication with computer is good.  Me, I'm not so good!
Any ideas, I'd be happy to learn them!  Thanks ~ Sam

Hi Sam! Thanks for posting in the Canon Community Forum. I see that the text in your documents is not printing when you use your PIXMA MG2522.

You mention that the nozzle check was fine. Please check that pattern again and make sure that you see a BK section at the top. If you don't have that pattern anymore, I recommend that you print another one. This test pattern shows if there is an issue with one or both of the ink cartridges. The instructions can be found in the following section of the manual:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/MG2500%20series/EN/BG/bg-maintenance1200.html

If you need help finding the location of the Stop button and the Alarm lamp, please visit the following page:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/MG2500%20series/EN/BG/bg-component1400.html

The nozzle test should show a BK pattern at the top and 6 colored bars for the Color ink, It should look like the pattern in the following page:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/MG2500%20series/EN/BG/bg-maintenance1300.html

If one or more of the patterns in the nozzle test are missing or streaky, it is recommended that you do a cleaning. If the cleaning does not help, you should do a deep cleaning. Instructions for both can be found in the following pages:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/MG2500%20series/EN/BG/bg-maintenance1400.html

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/MG2500%20series/EN/BG/bg-maintenance1500.html

After each cleaning, you should print a new nozzle test pattern to see if the issue is corrected. If the Deep Cleaning does not help, we recommend that you wait 12 hours and do another Deep Cleaning. The 12-hour wait will help the fresh ink soak through the clogged nozzles and loosen the dry ink. You may need to do up to three Deep Cleanings (12 hours apart) to correct the issue.

If the nozzle test shows a BK section above the first Cyan, C, bar and your text is still not printing, please write back.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.

Thank you, JayC1!

You are right on the money!  I did notice that the black area and grid, above the colors was not there as well as the mark to line up the corner on the scanner.  I assume black was okay, since the separate boxes down the side were working (I guess they aren't true black.)  I also forgot to mention the black cartridge was new, since it had been blinking for some time before.

It turns out there was something else I forgot... In my haste, hoping to print right away, I installed the black cartridge without peeling the strip off the nozzle.  This kind of thing has been getting too regular, as I continue to age!  So, after correcting that, the printer works as easily, and reliably as it had in the past!

Thank you so much for the time and effort you spent in giving such a thorough and detailed answer, I'm sorry to have asked in the first place!

Thanks ~ Sam
