Hello, I have used my Pixma printer for about 10 years now. It is model iP2820. Always worked like a dream even though it is very basic. Today I had an important doc to print out, had everything all set, but when I pressed the Print button this printer did not even show up. I looked in settings and it isn't listed there anymore either. It only shows Microsoft XPS Document Writer. Nothing about my Pixma. I am not the tech-savviest person in the world, so maybe I am missing something. But before this, whenever I would hit the print button, my Pixma stepped in to do the job. I'm in the process of system scanning, so perhaps a driver update would solve this? Please help and advise? Thankx

The driver does not appear on Canon USA or Canon Europe support sites, but an IP2800 Series driver is on Canon Asia, updated in 2021:
https://asia.canon/en/support/0100570901
It's goes up to Windows 10, but you can try it with Win 11 if that's what you have.
BUT FIRST, completely uninstall all software related to the printer in Control Panel. Then restart the computer.
NEXT, install the driver you downloaded, BEFORE connecting the printer to the computer. Follow the procedure carefully.
If this works, the printer should show up in Devices and Printers.
While you're at it, delete the Microsoft XPS Document Writer in Devices and Printers.. You don't need it. It's a vestige of something that had a purpose years ago.

Finally getting back to this. I copied the Canon folder off my C: drive and over to my external drive just in case, before doing anything else. But now, the Canon folder still exists on the C: drive, and it contains 1 folder that I don't know what to do with. ImageTransferUtility. If I try to cut it from the C: drive and paste it to the external drive, I keep getting the message: "The action cannot be completed because the file or a folder in it is open in another program." So what now?

Cutting application/program folders and putting them on another computer only works sometimes. Programs need to be INSTALLED on a computer to have it work properly.

It was installed for years, working perfectly. The windows updated messed it up. I guess I can replace the folder. Even if I try to delete the Canon folder from my hard drive, that one file ImageTransferUtility might still hang on. Would simply updating the driver solve this, do you think?

You need to reinstall the printers using the link that normdel posted.

Thank you! All is well now! I had copied and pasted the Canon printer folder to my external drive, but then moved it back. Then downloading and installing the driver that normadel pointed me to went fine. Really that was all that was required after weeks of wondering. I am a Tech Dummy! 😵
