PIXMA MG3620 stopped printing in color

joannakat

Hi! For some reason, my PIXMA MG3600 (possibly a 3620) has stopped printing in color. I'm using a Macbook Air, OS Monterey with a wireless connection. I can print in color from my iMac (also wireless connection) so I know it's not clogged printheads. I've already reinstalled all drivers and checked all print options, but no cigar. Print in grayscale is NOT selected.

Can anyone please help? This was such a nice printer until now! So frustrating.

Hi! Joannakat Thanks for posting in the Canon Community Forum. I see that you have a PIXMA MG3600 series printer and you are unable to print in color from one of your Mac computers.

You mention that you can print in color from your other computer. That does prove (as you suggested) that the nozzles on the color cartridge are not clogged. I do see that you reinstalled the printer driver, and that did not help.

Next, I recommend that you delete the printer from your computer’s list of printers and add a new copy.

Please follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the computer screen.
  2. In the menu that drops down, select SYSTEM PREFERENCES, and then click on PRINTERS & SCANNERS.
  3. Single-click on the Canon MG3600 series that appears on the left side of the window and make sure it is highlighted.
  4. Click on the Minus (-) button that is below or to the side of the list of printers, and then select the option to delete the printer.
  5. Once the printer is deleted, click on the (+) button and open the Add Printer window.
  6. When the Add Printer window appears, wait a few minutes for the printer to show up. It may show up more than once.
  7. If it appears twice on the list, click on the printer that appears next to Canon IJ Network. If it appears only once, click on it and make sure that you see “Canon MG3600 series” in the box marked “Use.”
  8. Click on the Add button.
  9. Wait for the printer to be added back to the list of printers, and then close the Printers & Scanners window.

When you are done, please try printing something with color again and make sure that Grayscale Print is not checked. If you are still having the same issue, I recommend that you reset the print system on your computer. To do that, please do the following:

NOTE: Resetting the print system will delete all printers from your Printers and Scanners window. If you do have other printers, you will be able to add them by clicking on the + button after the print system has finished resetting.

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the computer screen.
  2. In the menu that drops down, select SYSTEM PREFERENCES, and then click on PRINTERS & SCANNERS.
  3. Hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard. While holding that button down, click on the Canon MG3600 series in the Printers and Scanners window.
  4. Click on the RESET PRINT SYSTEM option that pops up and wait for the print system to finish resetting. You will see a message when it is finished.
  5. Click on the (+) button and open the Add Printer window.

After the printer has been added back, please try printing again and make sure that Grayscale Print is not checked. If your prints are still not coming out in color and you are able to make color prints from other computers, I recommend contacting Apple for help.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.

I am having the same problem.

Ink is full, not blocked.

Grayscale not on - definitely colour - but still prints in B&W or grayscale only .

Do I really need to uninstall and reinstall my printer?

Its crazy!

Did your Mac OS upgrade before this happened? The Mac technical site mentions a Printer issue, not a specific printer and this was the suggested fix:

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu

    DerrickL_0-1765545896193.png

     > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners

    DerrickL_1-1765545896190.png

in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  2. Control-click the printer in the Printers list on the right, then choose Reset Printing System.

Note: If no printers appear in the Printers list, you can Control-click the empty list and choose Reset Printing System.

After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners settings is empty.

  3. Add any printers again.

I don't have a Mac. I'm on windows 11.

It was working fine a week ago

The PIXMA MG3620 printer may stop printing in color after upgrading to Windows 11. This issue is often related to driver compatibility or settings within the operating system.

Troubleshooting Steps

Check Printer Settings

  • Default Printer: Ensure the PIXMA MG3620 is set as the default printer.
  • Print Preferences:
    1. Go to Control Panel.
    2. Select Devices and Printers.
    3. Right-click on the PIXMA MG3620 and choose Printer Properties.
    4. Navigate to the Advanced tab and check the driver settings. Ensure the correct driver is selected.

Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Download Latest Drivers: Visit the Canon website to download the latest drivers specifically for Windows 11.
  • Uninstall Old Drivers:
    1. Open Device Manager.
    2. Expand Printers and right-click on the PIXMA MG3620.
    3. Select Uninstall device.
    4. Restart your computer and reinstall the latest drivers.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure your Windows 11 is fully updated. Sometimes, Microsoft releases updates that improve compatibility with printers.

Additional Considerations

  • Firmware Updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for the PIXMA MG3620 on the Canon support site.
  • Test Print: After making changes, perform a test print to see if the issue is resolved.

If the problem persists, consider reaching out to Canon support for further assistance.
