Ink tank not recognized PIXMA TR8620

I recently changed all of my ink cartridges for my printer, used it to print something perfectly fine, then days later keep receiving "support code 1410: the following ink tank cannot be recognized," and cannot do ANYTHING else (even scan) because the support code won't go away when i hit the "stop" button on the right of the code on the screen. I've tried removing and replacing the cartridge after wiping the contact points, removing and replacing other working cartridges, restarting the printer, unplugging and restarting, and nothing is working. Google suggests checking for firmware updates but the steps say I need to be able to access my printer screen to do that which I can't do. Anyone have any info?

Canon ink or third party ink?

I purchased it from Amazon thinking it was Canon ink but it arrived in a plain cardboard box so I believe it is actually third party ink but labelled as compatible with the printer.

That may be the problem. The cartridges have chips and third party product may not be configured.

ok thank you, odd the other cartridges seem to be fine. Do you know if there is a way I can clear the code to print in black and white until I can get a canon cartridge to replace? It won't even let me do things, like scanning, that don't require using ink.

I purchased Canon ink and it still says ink tank not recognized even after restarting/unplugging the printer

Give Canon support a call at 1-800-OK-CANON.
