Ink absorber almost full on Pixma iP4700

My iP4700 is telling me that the ink absorber is almost full. Can I purchase a new one or clean the old one? I have read quite a bit about the absorber online, but nothing specific to my case. I assume the ink absorber is beneath the print head and that the print head must be moved to the left to access the absorber. However the head and cartridges currently do not move left, stop and center as they would to replace a cartridge. They do move left but stop to the right with everything visible except the yellow cartridge. It appears that I cannot even replace the yellow cartridge (which needs to be done) because of this.

Any ideas will be most appreciated.

Hi dicksevier,

While you may be able to replace the ink absorber of your PIXMA iP4700, resetting the error code requires the service tool which has not been made available to the public.

Please unplug your PIXMA iP4700 for 24 hours.  If the error returns, your PIXMA iP4700 would require service.

You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free standard shipping (if the order is completed by 12:30PM ET). If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week, 8am to Midnight. Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

Thanks Patrick. I will apply your suggestion immediately since it currently will no longer print.
