I have a Cannon Pixma which will print but not scan. I am so confused and need help. The error is sayying :
"Cannot communicate with scanner for these reasons:
1. scanner turned off
2. USB cable bot connected
CODE: 5,156,69
USB cable is connected - it prints.
Is this a common problem with Cannon ???
Is there a way to be able to use this scanner or do I need to get another brand?

I had this problem for days, with Pixma MX475, I installed the updated drivers from Canon Global Support. Made that printer the default printer. Restarted PC. When I wanted to use the IJ utility, I clicked on the dropdaown box and found two options, one for my printer and one for my printer followed by network, I highlighted the one with network and it worked. Hope this solves it for someone.

If my last suggestion doesn't work for you try downloading the Canon IJ network tool
