Canon PIXMA MP610 worked until Friday. Saturday the printer does not copy and does not print from computer, but does print maintenance functions (alignment, etc.) so it isn't the printer head. Discovered today (Sunday) that saving a .docx as a .png, the iMac can send the .png that will print, but the .docx sent still prints a blank page Printer scanner continues to print only a blank page in copy mode.
Any solutions?

Hi gobigred,
Never fear, I have not given up on the issue. 🙂
The reason the printer will print a .png image is because the printer is using the black color cartridge ink cartridge. The .doc files use the PGI black ink cartridge when printing documents.
Since the gird above the colors did not print in the nozzle check, that means the PGI Black ink cartridge is not applying ink to the paper. Since you have performed the cleanings and the PGI cartridge still wont apply ink, I would have to recommend replacing the cartridge.
Once the ink has been replaced, I recommend one more cleaning and then try to print the nozzle check again to see if the grid pattern appears.

Did notice that the old cartridge, even though after taking it out and seeing it had some ink, it was getting low. Put in a new cartridge and did deep cleaning twice (neither worked). Do you think the pad in the printer that the new ink cart sits on may have dried enough that it isn't absorbing the new ink? Not sure what to do next. Appreciate your continuing guidance - my wife loves the look of the printer and cannot find one similar to that look so hoping this can be resolved without having to search for and purchase a new printer. Already spent money on the costly twin pk ink if can't use.

Hi gobigred,
I recommend trying to reset the printer head. Please click HERE and follow the steps to reset the print head. This will help if there is any dried ink behind the print head.

Just got back and tried the latest suggestion, only to have the same result - still no black printing from the PGBK 5 (a new cartridge)
