Canon MG6800 not printing color

Hi.I am new to this forum.perhaps someone can help me.I have an almost new MG 6800 printer/scanner. My printer was working great until I installed 5 new ink cartridges in it.these were not original canon ink. The printer will not print any color. I reinstalled my driver. Checked my printer was set to default.checked color settings.all ok.then I did a cleaning.still not working.so I did several deep cleanings.still no luck. I noticed that the ink in each of the 5 ink cartridges was going down.but no color on the test page after each deep cleaning.I pulled out the 5 ink cartridges an looked inside thinking I would see ink all over the inside of the printer.no excess ink anywhere.I tried printing a photo.it printed very slowly as if it were putting down ink on the paper.but it came out clean no color. Any idea what’s going on.do I need to buy a new printer

Have you tried reinstalling Canon brand ink?

No not yet.I don’t want to spend what the canon cartridges cost an find out the printer is the problem.I have used after market for years an never had a problem.

While its rue that things can break at any time it seems a strange coincidence that a new printer stopped functioning as soon a non-OEM inks were installed.

While you may have used aftermarket ink for many years w/o problem, but have you used aftermarket MG6800 cartridges?

If it was me I would buy one Canon OEM cartridge and see what happens.

Thanks.I’ll give them a call

Hi, Pmorris1!  The PIXMA MG6800 series is an older model family which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

I removed the print head. I let it soak in rubbing alcohol over night. I flushed it with really hot water an let it air dry. I put it back in the printer with the new ink cartridges.it is working fine now. Just wanted to share that here.
