Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

macnicol
Enthusiast

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.

We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!

Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.

I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.

If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.

Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

Last night frenzy struck. After trying to get into service mode numerous times and being rewarderd with blinking lights time and time again I sat down in utter despair. And now I've had it. This is my 3rd Canon product that stopped working from one moment to the next without any apparent reason. I slammed the lid shut, pulled power and USB-cord and could barely refrain from taking an axe to the wretched pile of plastic and steel junk. A new printhead and possibly repair will set me back around 300 euro's. A new Epson printer wil cost me less then 100 euro's, a little over a hundred if I want a more luxury model. So the choice is easy: the fu*$#ng Canon in the trash and get me an Epson printer. Bye Canon, this was really the last try to get through life with your junk, no more Canon for me anymore.

Today one of my golf partners reported his printer had failed, so I stopped him and said "let me guess!" Sure enough, he had the dreaded U052 message and a completely dead Canon printer. After doing all the cleanup and restart procedure they unplugged it in frustration. He and his wife being engineers, they tried to trouble shoot the problem but realized they couldn't fix it themselves. After our game he was off to buy a Brother printer.

I have to be extremely pleased or extremely disappointed to post on forums.  I'm extremely disappointed.

Canon MG5220, very light home use

Error U052

Did the printhead removal thing multiple times.  Nothing.  Not happy at all.  Is there a Twitter hashtag I should use?

Same problem with my printer MP970, I removed all of the inkttanks, removed the printhead.

There was much spilt ink all over de printhead, I removed it with a little aftershave on a cottonstick. Verry gently.

I placed all the items back in the printer, switched the printer off en removed the powercord. It stayed 10 min. without power, then I switch the printer on again and the error is gone.

Good luck to you all

I have a Cannon MP560 and receive the error code UO52 type printer head incorrect. I removed the printer head and placed it back in as Cannon suggested, replaced the ink cartridges with all new ones but I still receive the error code and still can't get the printer to work. it will not even allow me to scan to my computer. It was printing fine then this error code pops up and I cant get rid of it.

Hi. Exactly the same issue that I have had. I have emailed Canon directly but not even had the courtesy of a reply. Living in the UK my next course of action is the BBC consumer programme 'Watchdog'.

Just got the error message today. When I called Canon they told me to buy a new printer. I just bought all this ink for the printer too! What poor customer service from such a big company. I will not be buying any more Canon products after this!

There is no "won't necessarily fix the problem." Be guaranteed it will not! It's a Canon scam.
