Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

macnicol
Enthusiast

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.

We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!

Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.

I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.

If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.

Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

Our daughter is starting high school next year. Reading through the information from the school about handing in homework there are no exceptions for printer or technology failure. Maybe there should be a Canon exception. We will need to buy a new printer. The MP 980 was expensive and should have lasted longer.

by any chance did any of you get a  software program survey installed on your computer by Canon?  yes, that's right! Canon istalled software on my computer without my permission wanting to track all activity on my Pixma 852 such as pages printed, printhead activity and much more for ten years.  Of course i uninstalled it.  i think this is their way of trying to figure out what is going on.  you can research this to see what i am talking about.  unbelievable!

many other canon owners received the same software on their computer

Same with MG5350!

and the same for a MG6250...

yesterday it happened during firmware upgrade 1.0x -> 3.x

nothing helps..

i own a lot of canon dlsr and i was also very happy with the mg6250, but in the last time i saw a lot of canon ink printer dying around me (wife, mother, colleagues), all of them not very old.

as many of you reported, i will also switch to another vendor.. i think it will also be brother (we have a couple of laser printer of them and they do a great job since a couple of years).

regards,

What is canon doing about this problem?

My MX882 printer is the third Canon printer that has died without explanation. It is obvious Canon has planned obsolescence. I am stuck with extra ink cartridges for all of my Canon printers. The latest notice for my MX882 is U052. I have tried everythig to correct the problem. Nothing works. Never again will I buy a Canon product.

What is Canon doing about this problem?   Over 500  posts and over 9 months since someone started this thread and all they're doing is losing customers as far as I can tell.

They're having a sale ! ;-)... I'm sure this is costing them plenty, and they'll probably quietly find a solution, but not admit publicly that there was ever a problem in the interest of reducing liability.

I suggest  that all contributors to this forum who have suffered the U052 problem and clearly had no response from Canon, spent a bundle on cartridges that cannot be used, post comments on their social networks to spread the word further.

ChrisReay, you probably didn't read that far back but we have tried and they delete all our posts and ignore us.

I left a very calm and factual message and they told me to email them my info. I did twice over 2 weeks and was ignored completely. Then left a follow up message twice a week for 3 weeks asking them to please check their email/messages as I had done what they instructed with no response - and ALL 3 were deleted. I have been completely ignored via their page, their messages and in email now for over a month.

They have also come here and delted many of our posts (about 6 members have reported this)

Their reaction and lack of concern makes the situation worse. Why not come here, address and admit the issue, and offer to replace with refurbished units at least? Is that not worth keeping us as customers? Guess not.
