I just replaced the exact same Canon 8C and 8M print cartridges with new one's from Fry's and got the deadly U052 message.. so my printer will not work. After reading about this unfortunate subject on this forum I was hoping there was a sollution by now. I refuse to buy another printer when my old reliable Cannon MP520 was working perfectly fine until the Canon cartridges ran out of ink. I've always purchased Canon cartridges for my Canon printer having no problem in the past until now. Sounds like something fishy anf faulty is going on here. Guess I'll have to contact Canon directly for answers. I'll be back with my findings.
